Will This Jewellery Fit Me?
What To Know Before You Order
Every hand, wrist, neck and ear is a little different, and getting the fit right makes all the difference to how much you enjoy wearing a piece. Here's what to keep in mind for each type of jewellery before you choose your size.
Rings
A ring should slide on comfortably over your knuckle and sit snugly at the base of your finger without spinning freely. Keep in mind that finger size can change slightly through the day and with temperature — fingers are typically a little larger in the evening, in warm weather, or after exercise, and slightly smaller in the cold. If you have noticeably larger knuckles than the base of your finger, we recommend sizing up slightly for comfort when putting the ring on and off.
Wider band styles and stacking rings tend to fit more snugly than thin bands, so consider going up by half a size for these. If you're unsure between two sizes, our team is happy to help you decide — see "Still Unsure?" below.
Bracelets & Bangles
Chain and flexible bracelets should sit with a little movement — snug enough not to slide over your hand on its own, loose enough to move freely on your wrist. Rigid bangles work differently: since they don't open, they need to pass over your widest knuckles before settling on your wrist, so always measure across your hand at its broadest point (not just your wrist) when choosing a bangle size.
If you like to stack multiple bracelets or bangles together, consider sizing slightly looser so they have room to move without feeling tight as a set.
Necklaces
Necklace length changes both how a piece sits and how it pairs with your neckline. Shorter lengths (like a choker or collar) sit high and work beautifully with off-shoulder or scoop necklines, while longer lengths (matinee or opera) sit lower and pair well with higher necklines or when layering multiple pieces. If you're layering, choose necklaces of different lengths so each piece stays visible instead of overlapping.
Earrings & Ear Comfort
For stud and drop earrings, the main comfort factor is weight — larger or heavier designs may feel more noticeable through the day, especially for those with sensitive or stretched piercings. For hoops, choose a diameter that sits comfortably against your face and doesn't catch on hair or clothing; smaller hoops sit closer to the ear, while larger hoops make more of a statement. If you have sensitive ears, look for pieces in hypoallergenic metals and avoid sleeping in earrings that press against the pillow.
Choosing the Right Jewellery Size
A few general principles to keep in mind while choosing your size:
- For rings, when in doubt, size up slightly — a ring that's a touch loose is more comfortable than one that pinches.
- For bracelets and necklaces, think about how you like jewellery to sit: closer to the body for a delicate look, or with more movement for a relaxed, layered look.
- Check the product page for the exact dimensions of the specific piece you're considering, as fit can vary slightly between designs.
- If you're purchasing as a gift, borrow a well-fitting ring, bracelet or necklace the recipient already owns to measure against, rather than guessing.
Measuring at Home
You can measure your ring size, wrist and neck length at home in just a few minutes using a soft measuring tape, a strip of paper, or a piece of string and a ruler. For step-by-step instructions and full size charts, visit our Size Guide.
Jewellery Styling & Fit Tips
- Mixing metals: pairing gold and silver tones is a modern styling choice — just keep the fit of each piece consistent so nothing feels loose or tight against another.
- Stacking rings: choose slightly different widths and go up half a size on wider bands so the stack sits comfortably together.
- Layering necklaces: pick 2-3 different lengths (for example, a 16" and a 20") so each piece has its own space to sit.
- Everyday vs. occasion wear: lighter, closer-fitting pieces suit daily wear, while statement sizes and layered looks are lovely for special occasions.
